The Final Act of The CrucibleThe final motion in the touch, execution four, fits into the plot three monthslater, after the court case and all in all the hangings of the condemned havetaken place. It is a scene full of tragedy, defeat, misjudgement andmisery. The audience should be left finding themselves askingquestions, as The Crucible is a reminder of how roughshod can becommitted by everyday people.This final act shows all the journeys the characters have travelled,in well-nigh cases from beginning to end. The way in which some of thecharacters act reflects the society they live in where in some casesthe characters will be of principles and in others they will not. Thisis evident in the play with two of the main characters, hale andparries who both prefer life to individualized integrity. Hale chaffers thismoral error and speaks to Elizabeth of it ,Life women, life is gods near precious acquaint no principle, howeverglorious, may justify the taking of itparris does not divulge this error and mistakes principle for selfprotection of his life his authority and of those whom he suspects ofdespising him.Looking at the complete opposite, showing the different priorities deep d birth this society and community are the people that lose their livesas they spot the importance of their own principles and integrity.This is evident with the proctors when the play reaches its climax inact four with two of the main characters, john and Elizabeth proctor.John is deciding whether to knowledge to an accusation he didnt commit,or to deny it and die. John realises the importance of his ownintegrity and becomes a different man who would rather not lying buttell the truth and be executed. This shows strength and how he is aman of great principle.is it fraud.am I not that man.my honesty is broke,Elizabeth I am nogood man.nothings spoiled by giving them this lie that were not rottenlong beforewith some strong advice from his wife he chooses frankly and goes tohis d eath with a few others who also refused to cede. The audiencewill see that this shows commitment and dedication when a man woulddie rather than confess to a false accusation. In modern day life more or lesssocieties would not behave like this because people would not be installin this life/death situation. In general I belive most people wouldrather tell the truth rather than lie and happen a bad name forthemselves.Elizabeth ends the play with a scene of tragedy. The tier directionshave a ray of light fall upon her.
